Late Summer News from Camp
Hello! Here's a quick update of what's going on at Camp Hope . . .
Campfires, Cabins, and S'more . . . The first-ever overnight camp sponsored by Camp Hope was well-received and a hit with the young campers! "Why haven't we done this before?" was the common theme among the young campers. It was a great time with corn roasting, exploring caves, decorating cabins, object lessons, campfire stories and more! Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers for making this happen! . . . Also a heartfelt thanks to the Parks Foundation for a $5000 grant to be used toward scholarships for the day/night camps! We are putting these funds to good use. Thank you!
Foster Families at Camp Hope . . . This summer we opened up the camp to families that foster youth - for a free long weekend of camping. All food was provided by Camp Hope, area businesses, restaurants, and a few individuals. Activities and crafts were organized by Anchored Creative Arts. A good time was had by all. The families had an awesome time and we are hoping to expand that program next year as a thank-you to families for supporting youth in our community.
The business side of things . . . Jim Oja has joined our board as Water/Sewer/Electrical Director. He brings years of experience with him and a heart for kids. Welcome Oja! . . . Darlene Kulla has accepted the position of Day Camp Director. Darlene has already been serving in this capacity (and more!) for years. We appreciate her heart and dedication for Camp Hope. . . Vivian Walikainen has accepted the position of Executive Director. Recently graduated with her master's degree in Management and Organizational Leadership, Vivian is excited to grow in her role at the camp.
Outdoor sink . . . This might seem like small potatoes, but we are so excited about our donated (yes, free!) outdoor stainless steel, 3-basin sink from friends of the camp in Aurora, Oregon. Woo-hoo! The sink will be a great addition to the camp.
Please Join us at the Camp Hope Fall Festival September 30, 2-8 pm. . . This annual event is sure to please young and young-at-heart alike. Lots of super fun stuff is planned in an old-fashioned carnival atmosphere – a clown show, the cavalry (with horses), games, yummy food, drinks, candy store, country store, pumpkin patch, a hay ride, vendors, live music and more! . . . Hope to see you camp-side on September 30 for this Fuundraiser!
