Hello Camp Hope Champion,
Brrrr! . . . How are you weathering the chilly fall rain showers? We hope you are warm and dry, snuggled in for the winter.
At Camp Hope, we (people, mice, bats and deer) are nestling in also. Projects are underway to tidy up the camp and hibernate until spring. Of course we are open for any brave group who want to use the camp for a day—or even a night or two!
We have had another successful year and want to say thank-you to all of our camp champions—that's you! Five years ago, Camp Hope was just a dream and an overgrown dilapidated camp. Today it is beautifully refurbished, with thousands enjoying the gorgeous grounds—it truly is a lovely community resource—a backdoor camping gem—which many of you have used.
Let us know if you would like a tour this winter to decide if your group wants to book a space for next spring/summer. It seems incredible, but we are already filling up!
Part of that is because we have set aside four 4-day sessions for foster families. We are so excited about this! It is our way of saying "thank-you" to families who foster, who invest in the lives of youth and empower them for brighter futures. We will partner with other organizations to provide everything the foster families will need for a fabulous camping adventure!
In addition, the monthly day-camps have been a hit—the word is out—kiddos LOVE the Camp Hope day-camps! They have connected, grown, and learned some extraordinary skills in the shoulder-to-shoulder time spent at camp. A $5000 grant from the Parks Foundation made these day-camps available to all youngsters who wanted to attend. Again, we have had many partners providing food for these camps—we are so grateful! Moreover, our amazing day-camp volunteers couldn't be any more amazing!
2017 has been full! . . . with training sessions through Connect BG for our volunteers, a new donated hand-crafted sign!, a sticky National Night Out in the Kiwanis Park, an extended stay by an Americorp team, visits from the cavalry, joining the Harvest Days Parade, a fun fall festival, a summer week with the Rock Solid Teens, installing a donated 13-foot long outdoor sink-yay!, and all the other groups visiting the camp . . .wow—2017 has been fantastic! We are looking forward to a bright 2018—starting with our February 9 FUNdraiser. Sign-ups will be on the website soon.
Camp Champion, we could not be making the difference we are without your help. Together, we are helping youth to connect, learn, grow and thrive at Camp Hope. Through time spent at Camp Hope, youth are being empowered to face the challenges of life.
To continue to provide all of these life-changing opportunities, we need your help. Will you consider a one-time year-end donation to Camp Hope? Or, to make a long-term investment in young lives, choose "recurring monthly payments" through the link on our website at http://www.camphope-wa.org/donate. Thank you.
Together we are building a stronger community. Thank you for investing in young lives and empowering youth for brighter futures.
Wishing you a warm snuggly winter,
Vivian Walikainen and the Camp Hope Team
